DOES IT COUNT?

I was asked to make a Baby Bag for a fellow blogger/weight loss friend (Jo) a few months ago.

But I had not started it.... until last friday when I finally got around to making it.... well Jo's baby is due in a few weeks so I thought I really better!

So, maybe it wasn't  really a UFO... more a 'not started yet UFO'... HA HA.

Anyway, I made the Baby Bag, then decided to make a matching Change Mat as I had enough fabric left over... and THEN I had JUST ENOUGH left over again to make a wee matching bag for Jo's 6 year old daughter... so I did.

ABOVE:  the finished products.  I must say I'm really pleased how they came out... I really enjoyed making the wee bag for Jo's daughter....

As Jo is not expecting the Change mat and little girl's bag I am dying to see what she thinks of them when she gets them in the post in a day or two.

So, that's another 'finish' for me... still got quite a few but not much time right now.... life gets in the way of sewing sometimes!
ONWARD....

Wish Quilt

Now that I have finished the emergency sewing for the sewing kits for the Queensland Flood Appeal, I am making good progress on my first UFO on my looooooooooong list.

I still have a little way to go to get the blocks together. I am putting this together completely different to the original layout as I don't have many large walls or spaces to hang largish quilts
so I have had to make this smaller. But there is trial an error in prepping the different blocks
to get them all to fit in together size wise. Definitely and improvisational way of quilting.

I think it is coming along quite nicely and I'm happy with the colour although probably not a real traditional christmas colour scheme but I have seen this used and I really like it.

There are a lot of you getting things completed which is great to see.

I hope these bring some comfort to whoever receives them.

Bye for now, Happy Cre8ting ~ from Liz

Finished Bag #10

I have had some of these stitcheries around for a while.... I have finally finished this bag which is going into my Christmas box....

It's quite huge....
 the stitcheries close up....

 ... and the back

I have started another set of stitcheries.... I think this will be quite a useful tote...

Lynette Anderson's design.............finished

I had real motivation......

I was needing to keep up this each month, one day this will be my quilt, but firstly it is for the wonderful shop I work at. So it was good because it kept me motivated to keep up with it.

If you didn't know this is a Lynette Anderson design called My Garden. Lynette cleverly designed the pattern and gorgeous hand painted button into a cute pack, which were then distributed through selected stores, where you could also buy fabric and thread packs.

With my leftovers I made this label.

If you go here there are still a few shops that have this beautiful set of patterns available.

But wait that's not all...................

If you really like this quilt, Lynette has put out another button club, called Christmas Fun! It starts next month...be sure not to miss out.....The Country Yard has already had many people pay and sign up!

Quilt finished for DS

I finally finished the skullquilt for my DS. I promised him it would be finished with christmas, it was a little bite later but I'm very satisfied with the result.

The label was made by his grandmother.

Some quilting.

The backside was designed by his father. This is his favorite side (grrrrr).

And the front.

Wall Hanger Finished

Finally I have my first wall hanger finished. I usually take this with me to my two craft days I go to. It was started back mid last year and I must say I am so pleased its now finished.

My sister Debbie found the hanger on sale at her local quilting shop. I had to wait on catching up with her to collect the hanger. So love the hearts and I adore bird houses.

I used DMC threads and Aster Manor by Moda.

My First Finish for "Sew It"

Well, I had just just about given up even trying to complete anything. The weather has broken and I'll be outide till about August now.

I had actually finished this embroidery right around Thanksgiving, but didn't have time to make it into a pillow. I spent a lot of time making a jacket for my mother for Christmas and it was a priority.

This pattern called for a checkered border, but I left it off. It would have added a lot to the finished piece but I just wanted it finished. It also called for some cross hatching on the pumpkin stem, but I think it looks ok the way it is.

Now it's in the closet and I'll enjoy it this coming fall. Maybe I'll add some ribbon to it to really frame all that stitching.

A little introduction...

I'm so excited to join with all you talented quilters! I truly believe that I'll get some of my many UFOs completed this year, since looking at all the ones being completed by this group-I am inspired and motivated!

I started my blog, when our older daughter won a blog design drawing and gifted it to me so that I could have a blog to share the art that I do.  Blogging opened another avenue for me to meet so many talented folk! And to think I didnt even know what a blog was, until our daughter had shown us hers in the Spring of 2009!

Here is one of my UFOs - cut and handpieced for the hexagon quilts that I had started. (Oh! Wish I knew about paper piecing before cutting each individual hexie!)   One for each of our daughters, but now I've told them when I do get them done, perhaps it will be for one for each of their babies ;o)

I posted about these on my blog post: "Stitches...at a standstill".
(If you do get a chance to look at any past posts,
please leave a comment there,
so that I know you were by.
...thank you so much :o)

I've always loved quilts and am blessed to have some made from family, especially thankful that my mom had made all her children and her grandchildren a quilt before she passed away.  This post:  "Quintessential quilts and quilting quandry" on my blog, shows more of the quilts that I have.

(This is one of my mom's cross stitched quilts she completed).

I learned to sew from my mom, but it wasnt until a dear friend (also a military spouse) showed me the basics of quilting that I first began quilting.  The military moved our families to different installations, and I tucked away my projects.

Until a couple of years ago...when another military wife and dear friend expressed an interest in quilting, and I pulled out my UFOs and shared with her what little I knew.  She has completed several quilts already!  Since then, I've decided to keep my hand piecing and hand quilted ones readily available.  I am working on this cathedral quilt.

If you would like to see more about my cathedral quilt, here is my post "Q is for Quilt" that I talked about it.

I'm a novice quilter, so would also like to ask all of you to please give me your opinion on the type of sewing machine you use. ...is it user friendly, etc? I gave our older daughter my old Singer, and am still on the look out for a machine that I can do free motion quilting, embroidering monograms (maybe), ease with use. I've asked this from other quilters before, so I am taking everyone's input in deciding which machine I hope to purchase.

Since I started quilting, I've actually only completed one wall hanging and 6 little mini Hawaiian style quilts for a quilt exchange. ...but hopefully before the year is up...I can say that I have more quilts finished!

Blessings & Aloha!

Number 3 finish…I am numbering them now

This means I am on a roll…Well a small roll as this is number 3 finish and there are many more UFO’s to do.
I haven't added them up as I am not really brave enough to do that! Tee Hee!
Table Charm Squares Runner
This is my table runner I did from the Charm Squares BOM from the Craft Forum that had a monthly swap. We swapped blocks and then when we had all the blocks we could do what ever we wanted to do with them and I made a table runner.
I was very good and even did machine quilting on it. I have a lot of practice to do that properly yet. Maybe if I had a lovely frame and computerised machine I would do much better….Dream on!! lol
I am enjoying seeing everyones finishes very much. Well done everyone and there are a lot of lovely projects too. Oh well….its on to number 4!
hugs to all…….Vicki

My first finish!!!

Hello everyone,
I just posted this on my blog:

I have a finish. Yup you read that right, I finished something. It's not a UFO but it only took...ALL DAY yesterday. I did it all by hand (remember, I don't have any place to put my machine right now).

Oh would you like to see what I did? Take a look at this:

It's a mug rug. My first one. I gave it as a gift to a friend today for valentines. My friend is my secret sister at my church so it is a secret but I want to make a label for the back to put on whe we reveal in the next couple of months.

Ok, now here is the particulars. It's about 9 to 10 inches across and 6.5 to 7 inches high. The stitchery is from Alex Anderson's redwork garden stitchery free patterns ( you can get it here ).  I used the tutorial that Jodi at Pleasant Home put on her blog as a starting point and then did my own thing.

The stitches are a bit big, but the only thing I can say about that, was that I did it between midnight and 3 am.

This is the back. I think, considering I did this so late, it turned out very good.

This is just to show you how it compares to the spool of thread I used to quilt it with.

Yeah me, one down...let's not go into how many to go.

Talk to you later,
Wanda

Ooopsss.... the list!

Well it's almost a month, since I tried to find excuses for not making my list!!!! Is it done yet...well.....nope. But I have had an excuse..... and I think it sounds pretty good. Well you know how we had Cyclones threatening our beautiful coast....well..... I looked at all my sewing gear...sitting in an exposed position....then I thought about the mess I would have to make to move it all..... and Cyclone Anthony didn't look that bad .... so I left it. I kept on cleaning mind you, no slacking there. Just no list. Then "Yasi" blew in... and yep...I picked up my skirts and skipped all my lovely gear up the stairs [only 5] and plonked it all in a spare bedroom. The room is overflowing and swelling out the door, but it was SAFE. Can I find anything.... you've got to be kidding...I can't get in there!!!! But...I'm still cleaning and there is a possibility that I could finish by the end of this month....and then you watch me.....I'll burn up those sitches and complete all those UFO's in sight.... well it sounds good, doesn't it???? And just to keep me sane... I'll list 1. Pink princess....bargello So there....who said it couldn't be done!!
Insane giggling....Gloria

A little finish

I didn't list all the verses of Jenny of Elefantz Give Thanks BOW (Block of Whenever) when I did my original list since it was a new project and I had no idea how many verses there were gpoing to be so I will just share them as I get one done.

And I am very much looking forward to meeting all the Gum Tree Designers next Month.

I am loving this finishing off the UFO’s

Number 2 finished!! Yay!!!
Here is my other table runner that I did using up strips of scrappy fabrics.
DPP_0004
I think I got to get into the habit of ironing things before I take a photo of them.

A Table Runner Finished!

Well I can finally put up a post with my Table Runner that I have finally finished!! I think I started this about last June 2010. I enjoyed sewing it and was undecided as to how to quilt it and ended up just doing Stitch in the ditch. Worked out ok.
Now its on to the next one....UFO that is :)
Hugs to all.....Vicki

Finish #2

I've been working hard and have finished #2 for this year. Another bag! This one is from Patchwork with Busy Fingers.

ANOTHER ONE DONE AND THE NEXT ONE ON THE LIST

I cant remember when I started this or which magazine it came from but I found it on my search for UFOs and decided to finish it. I found the frame at the op shop the other day and even though it is a bit small I decided to use it so that I could display my alphabet vegie stitchery in the kitchen. I can change it if I find a bigger frame in the futere.

This was also the first time I used pencils to add to the look of a project and I like it very much and will do so in the future.

Here is my next project. It is to be a quilt for one of my GDs and I will need it for November. As yet I dont know how I will do the quilting but If I can see it on the table all the time I know I will finish it. Sorry I forgot to turn the photo before posting but you can still see what I have to work with,Going now to decide what to do. Jude

Breast Cancer Bags done #2- #9

Last year I made some bags for people who have had operations to remove breast cancer... the individual has to go home with drains and apparently often use pillow cases.

I had cut out some more but they got put in the back of the cupboard as I got caught up with Christmas....

Some whimsical applique on the front and now they are ready to go to the Clinic....

.... so now there is space in the cupboard to cut out more ......

A Feb. finish

Although this was not on my list for UFO's it was something I had planned on making for a while and now it is completed , yeah! It is a simple runner to make and I just stitched in the ditch to quilt it so it really didn't take that long and it fits my hutch perfectly but the light is not the best today so I took this picture in my living room .  I have another finish as well but since it is for a swap I won't be posting a picture for a while ;-) Sheila
