March from Susan

March isn't quite finished yet - and Iucky I had the long weekend to give me enough time to finish this off.
The buttons took ages to sew on...I nearly glued them.  I have just about run out of daylight too, so the picture is a bit  dark - it is about to pour down here in Sunny Brisbane (well sometimes sunny).

March finish - scraping in again!

Hi all

My finish for March is a quilt for my daughter who lives in NZ so it will probably stay here in the UK until she comes to visit/or maybe comes home! She is 24 but loves quirky animal fabric.  I originally saw the pattern on the Missouri Star Quilt Company Youtube tutorials and I have adjusted it to the size I wanted.  I think the stack and whack is widely available pattern?   I have been catching up on the posts and what an amazing batch of finishes - again!
This is the front

the back

and a few other views.  The photo does not show how bright the animal fabric is against the white

I hope everyone has managed to find some sewing time over the Easter break - I have managed to finish this quilt and catch up on blogs - perfect day so far.

More BoMs from 2012

Firstly thanks heaps for the lovely comments to my previous post! The quilt has been received, I haven't heard yet if it will be exhibited but now I'm coming to the Melbourne AQC in April anyway :-) Who else will be there? It would be lovely to meet some fellow SIF bloggers!

I've lost count a bit of how many I have shown here sorry! Have completed 9 now, October, November and December yet to do - maybe over Easter?
Those that know the pattern might note the additional butterfly in September - I had overlooked a faint stain and wasn't sure it would come out ;-) please don't tell the recipient!

Happy Sewing!

3rd and 4th Finishes

I started these table runners in plenty of time for Christmas but.....I put them aside half done thinking there's still time.  Well, MONTHS later I finally finished them.  The runners were all cut out and fused so I just needed to do the stitching.

Not only have I finished two projects I now have two Christmas presents!

Happy Easter

Thread and Scraps Catcher

Several years ago I purchased a kit and pattern to make a thread/scraps catcher for the sewing area.  While cleaning up I found the pattern and decided now was the time to make it.

It went up so quickly that I made a second one for a friend.

Now I think I need to make another one for the area where I sit and hand stitch.  Those little thread snips are always so pesky on the table!!!

March Finish

These kits came with a magazine subscription "Cross Stitch Magic" and "Needlecraft Magic". Each magazine came with a little sampler, some where to be made up as cards, others as magnets, needle books etc. Each month I would pull out the kit, stitch in the gridlines, sometimes I would start stitching....... at the time I had two very full on boys, newborn and a toddler so inevitably they would end up back in their packets and stored away.

More kits than I can poke a stick at.....
I love pin cushions, I just don't like using them. I had a couple packed away for years and recently pulled them out and hung them in my sewing room. They are only little and looked lonely and the idea came to me they might like some company and it all just fell into place with what I could do with the little kits.
At the moment I have some long winded projects on the go and will not see a monthly finish for the Sew it's Finished Blog - and as I made a commitment to this blog I needed something that was achievable and the double whammy, a UFO would be removed from my massive list.

The two little cross stitches are my first finish. I have added the ribbon for hanging purposes, they will never be used as their name implies.
The miniature quilt also pictured is the tiny leftovers from a quilt I made for my Mother and Father in Law about 7 years ago. The squares are 3/4" finished. It is a replica of the bigger picture, so to speak. It will be used as a coaster.

Finishes 4-7

I can’t believe I have actually completed four of my listed UFO’s…. The reason I was able to get them done was I went to a four day retreat. You can see the antic we got up to HERE.
I sandwiched three flimsy and managed to get two completed and I finished the third yesterday…

Three Finishes For March

Reporting in with three finishes for the month.  The quilt on the left was a jelly roll quilt along challenge that I made at quilt camp a couple years ago.   The September hanging was done probably 5 years ago and the Fall Schnibbles was last Fall.   All three just needed binding, so they are now complete.  YIPPPPEEE!!!!  As always, a big thanks to Wendy and Dawn.

First Finish 2013

This year is going to be a slow year for finishes in my neck of the woods.  The Creation Station is bursting with projects but most of them are long term projects and will take me a while to get them finished and posted here.  I did finish a little project for a friend which makes it my first finish for 2013

I have posted more photos and the full story at my blog at Bits 'n Bobs, if you want to see more.

A March Finish....

A couple of years ago, my 7 year old (at the time) granddaughter drew me some pictures of flowers. As a surprise for her I decided to applique them and make a wallhanger. So in 2011 I started on this project. Just as well it was a surprise for her as I didn't finish it till this past weekend, but she loved it. Only problem is my other granddaughter who had drawn me a picture of a house, that I had started to applique last year, (but she doesn't know that) wanted to know why I hadn't made her a wallhanger out of her picture.
So that will be the next project.....

The following are individual photos of the flowers......

A Christmas UFO done......

So fun to see what UFO's are being finished... well done everyone and thanks Dawn and Wendy for keeping us digging them out!!

I started these stitcheries last year and have now finished this banner

I love all the little pictures....

... each block is different ...

This was a free design in 2011 from SewHappyMe...... I'm so glad I have finally done it....

Righto, Gotto Go - still more UFO's lurking in the cupboard.....

I have been busy!

Hi everyone!  I just got back from visiting a friend in Northern AZ.  we had our own mini retreat!  I have 3 more of my little wall hangings finished.  March, April and May.  they are from the book Red work with a Twist by Pat Sloan.  I had all the months prepped and partially finished back in December.  I facilitate a red work group at a local quilt shop.  so I am trying to stay ahead of the game there.  this is our project for the year.  I also finished this carrot while up there to give to my Friend as a thank you.  All in all, 4 1/2 yards from stash.  4 more UFOs bit the dust!

 March, April and May.....

thanks.......

Lorene

Two More Little Finishes...

Today I finally finished a needle book I started 3 weeks ago... well I didn't know what it was going to be when I started it, it just evolved into a needle book... made completely from scraps in my box...
How great is the fabric inside?!
It's very big for a needle book, but I am sure I will find someone to give it to, who will love it just the same!
I also finished a little stitchery into a bookmark. The stitchery was done in July last year, but I had no idea of what to do with it... so another item for the giftie box...
I am having a slow patch on tackling my ufo's, but I am happy with my progress with things so far this year.

A pretty finish

Recently at a quilting retreat I noticed that a lot of the ladies has quilted bags – and although I have made a  few bags, I have never made myself one.

So I bought a kit and over the past week have made this for…… Me.

bag 1

bag

The bag is made up of 2 inch squares, with an appliqué heart with stitchery flowers on the front pocket.  Now next time I go on a quilting retreat I will have a bag too.

5th finish for 2013

I am so determined to get at least one UFO finished each month this year that I have tried to come up with a bit of a plan to get things done. Firstly the big UFO to be finished this year WILL be Val Laird's "Consider the Lilies" wall hanging. All the blocks were made up at the beginning of last year with one blocks hand sewing finished and the second started by the end of the year. Well I have now completed the second blocks embroidery and will commence on the third shortly. Stayed tuned.......

I love table runners and I have several table runners in various stages of completeness in little baggies these are the next thing to mark off the list. So with that in mind a grabbed on bag the other day which had enough in it for two long table runners (can't remember why). This is the first of those table runners  using a quilt as you go method, fabric is basic Grey's "Sultry" by Moda (mmmmm love Basic Grey) jelly Roll (left over from teapot cosies which are still to be completed..

The rest of the fabric in that bag I have now been sewn together Jelly roll race style,I will add vertical borders to make it wide enough then quilt and bind it and another table runner/UFO will be done.

But first I will complete 2 more UFO hand towels which have now been earmarked as a personal swap.

After that I have another table runner, that I have designed myself, to complete using an Authentic by Sweetwater charm pack.

Then I will only have one more table runner to complete (made with caring hearts) and that UFO box will be done and dusted for this year.  There are only 4 more boxes to work my way through (bags, cushions, kitchen projects, completed blocks)  as well as a few small baskets of UFO's that haven't been sorted yet and 5 quilt tops still to be quilted.

That's do-able isn't it.........

One of MANY done this month!

I have really been working hard..almost forgot to publish at least one of them here! LOL  I have done several this month, but this is one that I'll put here to keep up with my promise.   I did post the other quilts on my blog, Passionate Quilter, if you'd like to see more.

I'm loving seeing everyone's work. My apologies for not making comments. Its pure laziness for sure. I read all my favorite blogs (this one included) through Google Reader...on Flipboard on my iPad. Well, to make a comment requires me to leave the app, go to the website to make a comment. And well...like I said..too lazy! and too much in a hurry to keep up with all my blog reading. I do get behind a lot! :)

One of the quilts I finished this month was 'Keep Calm and Quilt On'.  I designed this (after being inspired by a star quilt similar) for my Annual Pawleys Island Quilt retreat that I host. This wallhanging is about 42" square and was just the right size to fit into the schedule without making the whole week retreat about the one quilt. I did that one year, and it wasn't fun. People want to work on UFO's as well.

It will go in my recently redecorated guest room of gray, yellow and pink. This fabric was fun...it had all quilt related words on it. I forget the fabric line, sorry.  Unfortunately I buy fabric and after aging the proper amount of time, it's way past the limits of my memory!

Back to work....I have a quilt that needs binding and another one needs the blocks finished.

Happy Quilting, Karen
