Vintage Dreams done

This is a project I've been meaning to finish for a long time. I saved and collected vintage sheets for a number of years hoping to make a summery quilt. I was asked to submit a project for an Altered Recycled Textile Exhibit at a local Arts Castle. I got it done JUST in time for the deadline early December. I didn't even have a chance to take a photo of it to post until today! It will be hanging until Jan, 17. I'll be anxious to have it back and on the bed in our guest room.

The majority of the blocks were Ohio Stars. I got tired of doing those towards the end and started switching things up, making Flying Geese among other blocks. The back is another vintage sheet. I can totally understand why quilters don't use polyester in quilting! It is a pain! I used lots of Magic Sizing and Mary Ellen's Best Press!

So that completes my old UFO finishes for the year. I actually finished close to 50 quilts, I just didn't get them all posted. 12 of them were wall hangings, but the rest were quilts.

Thanks for all the encouragement and embroidery blocks Wendy and Dawn. It's been a great year. Happy New Year to all!

Wow I finally stitched something

Christmas Eve saw me sew my one and only sewing project for November or December.

This "Keep Calm" cushion was a t-shirt purchased in the post Christmas sales 2013.
It came home from the shop, was cut out and put down for some reason or another.

Christmas Eve saw me stitch it & stuff it.

Not a great finish & not how I had expected it to look, but complete & comfy too.

Can’t wipe the grin off my dial !

Well it happened!!!  We did it......
We reached, and even surpassed our goal of 500 finishes for the year.....BEFORE the end of the year!!!!
WOOHOOOOOOO!!!!
*insert happy dance here*

We’re  so proud of you gals......you did it.
We had 75 finishes last month
which took us to a total of 518 finishes by the end of November!!!  With still a month to go!!!!!
Now I must remember to contain my excitement and give my apologies for a very late block posting to our November finishers.....Christmas goodies and magazine contributions took up more space in life than I’d planned (along with the general run-of-the-mill stuff!)
But here is October's block for those of you who had finishes.....

045 (Medium)

and I’ve finished December’s block and that will be posted with the finishing directions for the BOM quilt at the end of the month….I’m working on piecing it together now.

005 (Medium)

So girls, look out in your inbox for the November block…I’ll be sending them out this afternoon.

Let’s see how many we can get done for December……perhaps a 600 finish????  (We’re cheeky aren’t we???)

Sew many Christmassy hugs

Finish #4 from Cath

Time to sneak another one in before the big day.  I finished this one off last night and took a photo this morning.  It is my eldest son's Christmas present.

If you want to see or read more about the finishing of this quilt, please click here

I probably won't get anymore finishes in before the New Year so here's wishing you all a Very, Merry Christmas!

Mini Finish

Years ago when I first started blogging I participated in a signature block exchange.  It was a simple block that required cutting off the two corners once you diagonally sewed a patch to them.  As a way of "saving" every little scrap, I ended up with a whole bag of HSTs.....small HSTs.   I've always meant to do something with those little gems. With the ALQS8 exchange coming up soon I found a great purpose for them.

I really enjoyed using  these modern fabrics in this design and the colors are so refreshing.  Sadly, it barely made a dent in my five year old bag of HSTs.  Guess I will have to come up with some more ideas for them.

Is anyone else participating in the ALQS8?  There is still time to join if you are interested.  I LOVE the way the swap is run.

Sew Laugh Love

Firstly my apologies for not posting in November but I have managed December. I have had this little number completely stitched for months and months but now it is finished. Phew another one done and dusted. My photography doesn't do it justice.

A December finish

Managed to sneak one more in for the end of the year, this one was a quick fun and easy quilt to make, and as I write this post on a hot 43 degree Adelaide day you cant help but smile at how cool it makes you feel.

I have called the quilt snowflake penguins, as I have added in some sparkly snowflakes above the penguins that were not on the original design.

Just in time

for Christmas!
Not really a UFO but could easily have been if it had not been so quick to sew.
The ornament in the middle, I found the pattern HERE, was easy to put together and then I just added fabric after fabric.
And here is the back of the cushion, closed with a zipper.
I'm so plesed that it was finished before Christmas!

A quick cushion

After the Victorian bushfires of a few years ago, a group was calling for Maverick Star quilt blocks to put together into quilts for distribution.  I made a block first off to "test" it out.  I wasnt very good at doing the wonky style - I needed mine to look more "normal".  I still had my sample block in with my other orphan blocks, and decided it was time to use it.

I added the border, put an invisible zip in the back, and it was made up in not much more than 1/2 hour.  I need to buy an insert for it when I am next at the shops.

the last of the UFO's.... #45,46,47

....no, not really.....

...but probably the last that I will get done this year!

I have had a few loose stitcheries hanging around for a while so now I have quilted them and made them into some postcards.

Righto, Gotto Go.....

Thanks to everyone for support and encouragement ... have a wonderful Christmas and see you next year... with a new load of UFO's????

Two more KARTS ticked off.

Yeah!!!!
Another grandniece, Miss C, and another grandnephew, Master HC have arrived.

This one is a Thimbleblossom quilt, called Pint Sized Jam Filled (????I think) with a bit a variation. Too far to go to check the name. I used a honey bun and yardage that I had stashed away for awhile.

This one is a kit I bought at In Stitches in Armidale on my way to my very first GDITC at Nundle, so 2010. It has blue rhinos scattered over the dark brown fabric with other animals. It will make a good 'I Spy' quilt. The dark colour will also make it great for camping when he's older.
Now you'd think I'd learn. Here are two kits I have now got out of the cupboard, made up and soon will deliver. It's not as if the cupboard is bare! So what do I do, but buy 2 kits from The Home Patch for 2 of Anni Downs' Christmas wall hangings. There is no hope for me! LOL.

Season's Greetings to all,

Take care everyone,
Cheryl (aka Kayly)

another finish!

hi everyone!  I have another finish!   yeah!  #58.  I am such a happy camper.  I have never been able to finish this many UFOs before.  I am feeling alike a big weight is being lifted.

I just finish #10 of 12 small wall hangings.  I have been working on these for 2 years.  I just have Nov and Jan to finish!  that's it!  and the whole series will be done.

I don't have a picture right now.  last time I updated my windows 8, I can no longer upload pictures from my phone.  sigh....  in the email they are jpgs, but when I go to download the pictures my only choice is a file.  not happy!!!

anyway, it's 20.5 x 28.5, so about 1 1/2 yards.  nothing was bought for these 12 wall hangings.  Nov and Jan are finished tops, just need to quilt them.  I hang them on my laundry room door.  I am hoping I get them done before the end of the year.

as soon as my son in law fixes this little hic up I will be posting pictures again.

Merry Christmas to all.  I know you are all busy sewing up a storm!  good luck in all your endeavors....

hugs...

Finish No. 3 from me

Another finish this year is also for a NewFO....it was a created when I decided to take part in one of my Local's end of year challenge.  The theme was "holiday" and I was inspired by a card sent to my hubby for his birthday. You can read more about it here and here on my blog along with more photos.

Cath @ Bits 'n Bobs

FINALLY!!

It'S Done!!!  My oldest WIP is now completed after a little over 3 years!  It's a Wonky Christmas Advent Calendar, which has had its top stitches ripped out 3 times, so this is quite a feat indeed for a project I thought would only take me a week.  Many times I had tried to come back to this project, but time and time again I would go away frustrated and throw it back on the shelf.  This lovely prize was completed the very last few days of November, but I haven't been able to reveal until today as I was waiting for my husband's sister and family to get their gift for Christmas early this year.

I also completed a popover dress to send to my friend's daughter along with a quilt for a coming female child. This one was also completed in technically November but had to remain a  surprise until the package arrived!

Well our whole world is covered in ice, so it's a good day to go snuggle under a quilt today!!

A finish to show - Part 2

I am back with another finish from the Christmas in July swap.  Yes, I know it is not a UFO but finishing a NewFO is better than leaving it to become a UFO......am I right?

Along with the red and white snowman runner, I made this cute little wall hanging.
I am not very good at "far away" photos, so how about some close-ups?

That better? I do like to see the details.

Yay.....some finishes to show (Part 1)

I don't think I have posted ONE finish on here yet for 2013. It has been a year filled with committments so only a couple of UFO's have been tackled. Not many UFO's but I have had a few finishes even if they were NewFO's

Let me start with my finish back in  July.  I completed a couple of items for a Christmas in July Swap and here is one of them
The original pattern was done in blues but I just fell in love with these red fabrics when I saw them and decided it had to be done in RED
The length of the table runner makes it hard to photograph so I will add a couple of close-ups for you to look at.
I should really have made two as this would have gone so well with my choice of Christmas colours this year
I will be back soon to show off other finishes for the Christmas in July Swap.

Crossroads

It’s a.most the end of another year and I finally finished Evelyn’s quilt for her crib.  I thought I had better get with it before she is too big for a crib.

This one is called crossroads and was a kit I bought from “A Scarlet Thread” a local quilt shop when they had their end of the year sale in 2012.
The colors were perfect for her room.
I put some Minky on the back.
Happy stitching,
Nancy R

Nice To have a Finish….

After my little hiccup last night I am pleased to have finished this little quilt and mark it off my UFO list……
