August - Susan Oh2Sew

This one is called Donna's Dreaming - designed by Donna Elkington who owned a patchwork shop in Brisbane.
I think I started it in 2003...finally got it quilted last month and binding on this month.
I do love the border on this one.

June Finish - Susan Oh2Sew

Back in 2011 I took a series of classes designed to make use of the decorative stitches on my sewing machine and to teach various applique methods.
I had a wonderful time playing with threads and fabrics.  I learnt Bobbin work, did some cording, used ric rac.  As is often the case I have changed the original design......

and here is the bobbin work.

Happy Sewing everyone...off to find a July project...which one . . .???

June Finish

I am over the moon with this finish!
I started this quilt years ago and to have it finished is such a wonderful feeling of satisfaction.
All the hexies are sewn together by hand. Every piece of fabric is from past projects or been given to me over the years so it is full of memories.
It is rather large as I wanted it to fit my queen size bed and hang over the four sides as well.
So happy I can cross this off my list.

May Finish - Susan Oh 2 Sew

Just a small finish for me this this month..and not a long term UFO - but a finish is a finish!!

My bestie gifted me a fat quarter of beautiful gold fabric with houses last year - she knows I have a thing for houses...I started to put it together in February on retreat but didn't get very far....

It's not specifically Christmas but the gold means I will probably use it at Christmas time.

Happy sewing everyone - lets see some more finishes!!!

April Finish - Susan Oh 2 Sew

I have finished my Quilty Fun Sew-a-Long Christmas Quilt.  This was a project from Lori Holt that she ran in 2014 on Instagram - some of the blocks were in her book "Quilty Fun" and some were only on IG.  I didn't do it at the time ...though I bought the book - so thought I'd better make the quilt at least.  I started it sometime in 2014...I think - I really am trying to be more diligent about recording that sort of thing.

Her pattern has a pieced border which I chose not to do and I used a strawberry block from her Farm Girl Vintage book instead of the log cabin block - more appropriate to an Australian Christmas I thought.

March Finish - Susan Oh 2 Sew

I made this quilt as part of the Stitch-A-Long blog - designed by Anni Downs.

As I was at GDITC in Nundle recently with Anni teaching for the stitching day I had her sign the label.  It's a bit feint but I can read it.
One more off the list!!

March UFO ....

The 6 1/2" blocks for this quilt were made in a swap a few years ago

This is the quilt I made with my blocks - I took out the pinky ones as I specifically wanted this to be for my almost teenager eldest grandson....

I custom quilted the blocks, with these twisted orange peels in the darker blocks

... and a curved ribbon in the lighter blocks
(hard to see but hopefully this second picture is better)

.. an a twisted ribbon look in the sashing - miles of sashing!!

It's a lovely warm masculine quilt ....

I was given some spare blocks which were added to my extra's and I have made up a second quilt using them.... the same but different!!

The squares have all been sashed and then recut on a very slight angle to give it a bit of a wonky look...

I'm pleased to say I have one of my UFO's finished this month - but I also managed to make another one too!!

Righto, Gotto Go.... I'm going to have a dig in my drawer to find a SMALLER UFO to finish....

Yoo Whooo !!!!!

I am delighted to be able to post that I have FINISHED the  "Mystery Quilt."

Even though it was the newest UFO on my list it was one that annoyed me as I didn't like the way the quilt was supposed to come together ..

Sew after playing around with the blocks I make this......

and I really like it now....   Hmm!! what to make for March...

#2 February finish

This Christmas Bag has remained unfinished for a few years now.  I had completed the stitchery and even put the front together so there wasn't a huge lot left to do.

This is one of Michelle Ridgway's tote bag designs called "Amongst the Holly"

.. there is a sweet Robin and holly detail on the ric-rac.

... I quilted the back in a wiggly cross hatch... not too noticeable but it will hold it together.  The pattern called for iron on wadding which I didn't have so I sewed it on!

Righto, Gotto Go... I'm working on another UFO today!!

Number Two Finish For The Year

Yay, another finish and this one was a few years in the making.

The stitchery was a BOM and called 'Love Is'

Next week I am off to my parents, so on the way down I will stop off in the Hawkes Bay to find a hanger for it.

So glad it is finished.

My Oldest UFO

Back in 1988, I went to the first NSW Quilt Guild's Quilt Symposium held in Armidale NSW. It was the first of its kind and a group of us spent four days(??) doing various classes from a wide range of tutors.
One of the classes I did was machine quilting - using a walking foot - we had to pre-prepare a panel and in the class we quilted.  This was all before fabric markers that vanished, so it seems we marked in pencil.  I finished the panel at the time and it has been sitting / hiding ever since.(One interstate move and one house move)

In 2011 (I think) I joined up with Sew Its Finished and it was to be one of the projects that I completed that year.  When the time came I couldn't find that dratted piece anywhere...(must have had a "tidy up" binge!!)...So I found another project.

Finally, it's a cushion......Glad to have it off the list.

Happy Dance !!!

I am delighted to be able to mark "The Postage Stamp " off my UFO list for January......

The quilt measures 52" X 73" made in 1 1/2" squares.... I quilted it in the ditch across 4 squares and down 5... looks like lots of envelopes on the back.....

Now to work out what to do for next month's finish ???

A Finish

My first UFO finish this month This month I completed a table runner out of blocks I have made for block swaps but deemed not good enough to post. I really like how it turned out.

I even managed to practice some free-motion stitching on it too

So that is one item already marked of my list.  I have also got a couple more items to add to the list in my search for things, so will add in the next few days on my blog
